Can Real Estate Development Save Endangered Species?
by Joseph L. Woytowitz, Jr.

Comments and Feedback:

Very interesting idea. But what about the house lights and noise and exhaust fumes from the cars, because people, as far as I can see, seem to think that they must have a big SUV to go along with their special condo. I was looking for information on Vieynam's Snub-nosed monkey!

I just finished your book, and find your concept to be refreshing, in that it should serve to stimulate and encourage other individuals like yourself to move forward with private "Industrial Park Forests," and other types of Wilderness Areas, which are maintained and protected by private ownership. There is certainly no reason why ecologically oriented developments, with their own managed forests, streams, and ponds could not become as popular as golf-oriented developments. Such eco-developments could be enhanced with a variety of managed wildlife, nature and bike trails, and ponds could be used for canoes, kayaks, and small sailboats.

As a Research Scientist with experiences in many fields, ranging from Marine Sciences and Aquaculture to Rain Forest Ecology, I firmly believe that a major part of the ecological preservation and restoration of our planetary ecosystems will be accomplished by privately funded forest, island, and coral reef edological preserves. Such developments can then serve as protypical examples for similar development of public natural ecosystem areas, where urban dwellers can experience and re-connect with the natural evnironment.
