2013 Video Contest

The World Future Society is pleased to announce a video contest on the theme of “Exploring the Next Horizon,” in conjunction with the annual conference to be held July 19-21, 2013, in Chicago, Illinois. The grand prize will include public showing of the winning video during the conference.

The conference theme was inspired by THE FUTURIST magazine’s special report, "The 22nd Century at First Light: Envisioning Life in the Year 2100” (September-October 2012). See essays. We therefore encourage entrants to explore these essays—forecasts, scenarios, timelines, tools, and questions—to come up with their own video presentations.

Video Concept:

  • Come up with your most creative, informative, and inspiring way to report on trends or tell a story about life in the year 2100. Possible approaches:
    1. Interview somebody about the year 2100. Choose someone who might be an “expert” in a specific subject area (e.g., college professor, business owner, scientist, farmer, nurse).
    2. Write a skit (scenario) about life in the year 2100 and use friends or family as actors.
    3. Narrate a visual report or story about the year 2100, using your own photos and videos (these must be your own photos or videos; if you do not own the original copyright, you should include a letter of permission or a copy of any license agreement from royalty-free image services like iStockphoto or Dreamstime).
  • The video must include the World Future Society URL: www.wfs.org
  • All content must be original and owned by the entrant or accompanied by license agreements (such as for stock photos, background music and videos, etc.) or permission of copyright holders.
  • Live action and animation are both welcomed.
