TECHNOLOGY IS CHANGING HUMAN INTERACTION

BETHESDA, MD — Technology is bringing people together, not driving them apart. "We are just at the beginning of a wave of self-organizing digital communities" which will bring people with common interests together regardless of where they are, says Timothy C. Mack, president of the World Future Society.

"Technology can allow creation of digital spaces for shared interests and new digital communities," he says. "We are just at the beginning of a wave of self-organizing digital communities, and only time will tell what shapes they will take."

Mack is a guest columnist at the Web site for the Institute for the Future at Anne Arundel Community College. Read his complete remarks on the future of communication and community at http://www.aacc.edu/future/askfuturetmack.cfm.

The World Future Society is the largest and oldest organization in the world devoted to studying the future. Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, the Society publishes the bimonthly FUTURIST magazine and other futurist publications
