Hurricanes, Droughts, and the Global War Cycle

On October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy exceeded the 1960 modern record and 1821 all-time record for flooding in New York City’s Battery Park. The national drought of 2012 exceeded the droughts of 1988, 1934, and 1936.

Resurrection: The Disaster in the Tohoku Area in Japan

The triple punch of earthquake, tsunami, and the nuclear power plant disaster that Japan suffered on March 11, 2011, will be discussed from the point of view of the complex dynamics of the situation.

Dr. Mizuta will examine first the Tohoku earthquake, second the tsunami, and third the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plants.

Governing in Dire Straits

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck the central Gulf Coast of the United States. In New Orleans, civil government was overwhelmed. For a week, the inhabitants of New Orleans struggled for survival. For a week, the institutions of government, including the criminal justice system, were essentially defunct.
