As a longstanding member of the Society, I am astonished that you would
provide links to where to buy a CD that has nothing to do with the Society. Does the
Society take a cut of each CD sold, or does Clay Aiken kick back a percentage of his sales
to the Society? If so, I hope that will mean my dues will drop. What a disgrace!

Editors' response: We understand your feelings because we had misgivings
ourselves. However, we decided that Clay Aiken and his album, "Measure of a
Man," represent a very constructive change in the lyrics and behavior of pop singers
that might interest World Future Society members. (See also the story in The Futurist
about the hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas in "Values Shift for Urban Music,"
July-August 2004, http://www.wfs.org/optoutja04.htm.)
Through its partnership with Amazon.com, the Society provides links
to many books, videos, and in this case a CD that may be of interest to some readers. This
service replaces the Society's Futurist Bookstore retail operations, which had become
prohibitively expensive to maintain.
I enjoyed
the article on Clay Aiken. He is an excellent example of a futurist. The way he noticed
his opportunities to LEARN, now he is TEACHING all of us by his actions. I have been
inspired by his enthusiasm to not only help people with disabilites, but give them the
chance to help all of us. We're all a little better off for knowing a man named Clay
Aiken. And to top it off he's got a great voice. Thanks for the article. Really enjoyed
reading it.
