Introducing My Blog
Hi,
My name is Ken Harris. For those of you who don't know me, I am Secretary of the World Future Society and an active member of the Washington, DC, chapter of the World Future Society. My futures consultancy is called The Consilience Group, LLC, and you can read more about me and it at www.theconsiliencegroup.com.
My blog posts will be primarily on the two areas of the future in which I specialize--sports and fitness and emerging technologies. Within the area of emerging technologies, I will blog primarily on the future of transportation technologies. To see my previous blog posts on sports and fitness, visit http://exerfuture.blogspot.com.
Just to get started on the sports and fitness side, I was glad to see the Washington Post on Sunday recognizing a trend of active charitable giving that I think will be increasingly prominent in the professional sports world for years to come. The article is entitled DC Teams Boosting Focus on Charitable Giving http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/14/AR201008.... I am glad leagues and teams are doing this whatever their motives because it is a way for them to give individually to those in need and collectively to the cities and states that heavily subsidize their stadiums. Public subsidy to sports stadiums is the subject of a new book "Bad Sports" by Dave Zirin. I heard him speak on Monday night, but I have not yet read his book. I may have more to say about it when I do.
